Do you see any of these on your homepage? Keep reading 👇
⛪️ CHURCH SITES
Remove anything that’s too insider-specific. (Ex: volunteer sign-up forms, usher or Sunday school teacher schedule, copies of the newsletter, budget reports, links for online giving, the date for the next voter’s meeting, link to join a private Facebook group, you get the idea…).
Instead…
Create a single “Member Hub” page in your navigation and take this info off the homepage. Publicize to your congregation that they can find everything they need at YourChurch.com/Members (or whatever you choose to call it).
✏️ SCHOOL SITES
Remove ”Apply Now” or “Enroll Now” buttons from your homepage.
Instead…
”Schedule a Tour” or “Request More Information”
Apply Now or Enroll Now = Yikes, I just got here. I’m not ready for that yet. You’re discouraging most people from taking any action.
Schedule a Tour or Request Information = Ok, after I look around a bit more, I might actually be ready for that. You’re encouraging a non-committal action to which most serious inquirers can say YES.
Plus, you‘ll have their contact information even if they don’t end up enrolling. ☺️
✝️ IN GENERAL
Choose the 3-4 most important buttons on your homepage and remove the rest. Seriously, 4 buttons at the most.
If a visitor showed up to your establishment on a random Thursday afternoon and you answered the door, what would you feel was important to tell them?
I’ll let you answer that for yourself, but I’m going to guess you probably wouldn’t prioritize telling them how much hot lunch costs.
It doesn’t deserve a spot on the homepage unless it would come up in this hypothetical Thursday-afternoon scenario.
