Use these questions to drill down on your messaging and discover your unique audience.
Communication, event planning, social-media-caption writing… it all gets easier when you’re comfortable talking about your organization’s unique “wheelhouse.”
There’s no right or wrong answers. Get your staff talking about the following questions and productive conversations will happen. I promise.
- What kind of community exists within a drivable radius of your organization?
- What are the demographics (age, race, marital status, language, etc.) of the people within your community?
- What values matter most in your community? (Work/life balance, loyalty, family, independence… the list goes on…)
- Overall, how much disposable income and recreational time exists in your community?
- Are there any underserved groups in your community?
- Are there other WELS churches or schools in your community? What differentiates you from them?
- Are there other non-WELS churches or schools in your community? Besides theology/doctrine, what differentiates you from them?
- How are those who work for your organization (called workers & staff) similar to or different from those living in your community?
- Why might someone in your community be unable to enter your doors?
- Why might someone in your community be uninterested in your organization?
- What kind of person is ready to hear about what you have to offer?
- Is there a discrepancy between the kind of person you’re currently attracting and the kind of person you imagine would be attracted to your organization? Consider reasons why this might be happening.
- Think about your prospects historically. Consider those who have become members/students. Do they have anything in common? Consider those who have not become members/students. Do they have anything in common?
- Think about your most “successful” community events. Do they have anything in common?
- What do your members/students say that they appreciate most about your organization?
