This is valuable real estate! Everyone who visits your page sees this first. What kind of impression do you want to make?
Here are 3 ideas in order of least to most effort:
1) A candid photo of your community
I’ve said it once, I’ll say it again: You cannot go wrong with happy, smiling faces! Ideally, this is candid, not posed.
2) Your logo with text
Another option is your logo with some simple text underneath. The background can be a solid color, a texture, or an image (just make sure to have strong contrast against the background).
The text can be your mission statement, your location, service time(s), and/or your website url.
Make sure the logo/text combo doesn’t take up too much real estate. Leave a generous border (see template below). Otherwise, it may be the victim of an unfortunate crop on some mobile screens.
3) Rotate it seasonally
Make your header a simple promotion for your next big thing. For churches, this could be Advent/Lent worship times. For schools, this could be enrollment or graduation dates.
When I say simple, I mean it! Don’t info dump in this space. This isn’t a replacement for your other promotional strategies, but a simple way to contribute to the Magic of 7 (and demonstrate that you’re on top of things).
Things your header should not be:

Play around a bit!
